Same here, @happy_vapey. They didn't give me the choice, under "why did you switch?" of "I was tired of washing my white curtains every 2 weeks"... :)

lol or i was tired of cleaning that film that coated my car windows

man, that takes me back.  I dont miss being that habitual pack-a-day smoker.

^^^^ yes! Yuck! Though I do find ecigs do also contribute to some sort of film on my windshield....or maybe it's just normal. I haven't had too many cars that I didn't smoke in at some point prior to quitting.

    Complete. Well designed survey.
  • vaperaniavaperania Posts: 116Member

@westtxguy, I have no idea how long before survey results are made public, but I'll keep checking Dr. F's website and will report back.

And to everyone who took the survey:  =D> !

Done but they're not getting my e-mail.
It is really inconclusive who/what org. is asking for this information
  • vaperaniavaperania Posts: 116Member

Your reaction raises a good question, @Earthpig. Here's the only info I could find on their website (http://www.ecigarette-research.com/web/index.php/about):

"We are a group of people who have no relation with the electronic cigarette industry. We do not represent any company or have any financial interest in electronic cigarette manufacturing or retailing sectors. Our only goal and purpose is to provide information about electronic cigarettes and their effects on humans, in a simple and easy-to-understand language. We have recruited specialists in electronic cigarette research, therefore all comments posted in our website are of high quality and scientific integrity."

Their contact page (http://www.ecigarette-research.com/web/index.php/contact) shows only email addresses, no name, phone nos., or physical address.

I googled them and found only pages from the same site or references to their studies, but nothing about them. It appears Dr. Farsalinos and his group are their sole contributors. I think their anonymity is open to many differing interpretations. How do you see it?

Here is a link to https://duckduckgo.com/?q=Dr.+Farsalinos what the Dr. is involved in.
  • vaperaniavaperania Posts: 116Member

Lots of interesting references there, @mrt, but it still doesn't have anything to say about the website ecigarette-research.com. I'm stumped. How do you go about getting info about a website other than what they publish about themselves?

BTW, I'd never heard of duckduckgo but am impressed with what several test searches turned up using it. Thanks!

    That would be unknown.

Here is the link to CASAA announcing the study http://blog.casaa.org/2012/12/e-cigarette-research-survey-new-case.html

They can still do the survey w/o your personal e-mail. Mine was accepted.
It assumes the e-cig user doesn't any longer smoke, and many do (I do).
    This sorta skews their research.
  • vaperaniavaperania Posts: 116Member

@Earthpig, sorry, I meant to answer your comment in my last post: As I understand it, they ask for your email to avoid avoid someone taking the survey more than once. But hey, I'm glad they took yours anyway!

As of a few hours ago, more than 7,000 responses.

    No Prob.
I was making the point that they are an unknown and my e-mail address won't be given out easily.
It's not that the survey is useless but we have no clue how they will use the information or who they really are.
Hope something good comes from it.

No spam here.  Got more e-cig spam just by ordering from SBS, yes it was a nightmare in every possible way.  Whether or not it is a legitimate scientific effort is not of that great a concern to me as it valuable in data gathering alone.  Whether or not science actually rears its head at some point, I pretty certain that the results WILL make anyone looking to conduct such a truly scientific study/venture perk up and take notice.  It should also serve as data backing for smokers who want to quit and have already failed at patches, gums, sprays, pills, etc.  I don't know about the majority, but for me, quitting was easy.  I had exactly one cigarette each of the first few days of vaping and none since.  30+ years of smoking.  Patch, failed miserably.  Gum was better but I still craved a cig every second of every minute of every hour of every day for three long months, oh, and still experienced nic withdrawal symptoms big time.  Cold Turkey, three weeks.  Vaping works, even if it is a traded addiction, it's at least a little safer (according to some studies, much safer).  Still, I'm stepping down nic consumption fairly rapidly as well.  This just goes to show how wrong-headed quit programs are.  One facet of the addiction at a time.  For me this was replacing smoking with everything about smoking that I enjoyed, minus the burning leaves, first.  Next is nicotine.  Hopefully, after that, I'll be able to break the (non-physical aspects) of "vaping addiction".

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dr. Farsalinos says they will probably leave the survey open for a few months but may start analysis of data next month in preparation to publish.

So, likely nothing much to report after this until results are out, but if there is, I'll let you know.

    PS: Still no spam here...

Unfortunately it would appear this thread is now unbumpable. Wonder why?
